By selling out venues across the globe, Scottish-based group Chvrches has done what so little bands have done; all this without having released a full-length album.  On their west coast leg of their North American tour, Chvches (spelled with a 'V') has sold out two of their Los Angeles shows.  First, after The Troubadour sold out within minutes, they added a another show, but this time across town at the much larger Fonda Theater which also sold out.  Days earlier, they played at San Francisco's Mezzanine after the original and smaller venue sold out which prompted another venue change.

But is this band all hype?  Their debut EP, Recover,  was already breaking out in a big way before it  was released stateside in March with breakout singles "Mother We Share" and "Lies" recieving much of the early blog buzz.  A stop at this year's South By Southwest added to their growing popularity which burned like wildfire making fans hungry for a lot more than just the 4 songs on their EP.

Their Troubadour show was a much more intimate affair and much more electric than their show at much larger Fonda Theater the night before.

The energy in the sold-out, 400 capacity venue certainly heated the packed house and was something the band wasn't used to.  "We're not used to people dancing," lead singer Lauren Mayberry says to the audience. "We're from Britian."

With only a handful of songs, Chvrches consisting of Mayberry, Martin Doherty and Iain Cook, played every song in their arsenal including new songs that's sure to please the hardcore fanbase like the beat/key-centric "Gun" and my favorite, "Night Sky" a tension heavy tune that builds into Mayberry trading vocals like a fighter in the ring.

And something fans should expect on their new album, electro-sound-sculpter  Martin Doherty also gets in on the vocal act, sharing singing duties on "If We Sink" and "Tide" with Mayberry singing background while "Now is Not The Time" is a 80s inspired, seductive tease of a pop love song, their closest ballad of a tune with breathless harmonies.  The night ended after two encores with an electro-pop cover of Prince's "I Would Die 4 U."

Their much anticipated debut album is due this September.

Troubadour Setlist (June 1, 2013): Lies / If We Sink / Now Is Not The Time / Lungs / Gun / Night Sky / Science / Strong Hand / Tether / Recover / Tide / The Mother We Share / I Would Die 4 U (Prince cover)
